I think I’ve been waiting for this since I was four years old. When I was four, I remember watching Star Trek with my father and getting excited and saying I was going to work on the Enterprise when I grew up. I remember being outraged when my father said that Star Trek wasn’t now. It was at least 200 years away. I decided right there and then that I was going to go work for NASA and get them to pick up their pace and bring Star Trek closer. Well, I haven’t been very effective at that, and with the future of human spaceflight being at risk, maybe this is the best I could hope for – to bring Star Trek to NASA instead of NASA to Star Trek.
